The hackathon is open to undergraduate, postgraduate, and student startups across Malaysia.

Yes. This is a national-level hackathon open to participants from any university or organisation in Malaysia.

Yes. You may apply individually, and we will facilitate team matching before the workshops.

We recommend 2–5 members per team to ensure diversity in skills and effective collaboration.

All intellectual property currently remains owned by Universiti Malaya.

No. Any licensing or commercial agreements are subject to Universiti Malaya’s official policies and approval processes.

This hackathon focuses specifically on commercialising Universiti Malaya’s IP portfolio.

No prior IP experience is required. Workshops and mentors will guide you through the fundamentals.

You are expected to develop a structured commercialisation pitch deck, not a full technical prototype.
However, if your team is able to prepare a workable MVP, mock-up, or basic prototype to better demonstrate how the product functions, it will significantly strengthen your presentation and overall impact.

Teams will pitch a commercialisation strategy for their selected UM IP, including market validation, revenue model, and go-to-market approach etc.

Yes. Participation in the briefing and both workshops is mandatory to qualify for the 2D1N Hackathon Sprint.

Teams refine their commercialisation strategy, receive mentorship, and pitch during the Semi-Finals on Day 2.

The hackathon sprint will be conducted physically at University Malaya. Details will be provided to selected participants.

Top teams will receive cash prizes and direct access to further commercialisation opportunities.

The Top 3 teams will gain direct access into the UMDT Accelerator programme, subject to final eligibility and onboarding requirements.

There’s no official accommodation provided. However, participants may opt to stay over at the hackathon venue itself.

Yes, meals and light refreshments will be provided during the physical hackathon.
